Tavisi The Story Pvt. Ltd. is a young yet promising women-led enterprise that is quickly garnering the attention of many in the e-commerce industry. Launched in November 2022, www.tavisinepal.com is a collaborative and inclusive online shopping website and digital magazine company determined to transform the online retail and media space in Nepal.
Tavisi is a Sanskrit word that denotes strength, power and courage. The enterprise aims to promote honest, candid, open and compelling conversations and build a community of like-minded individuals – one purchase, one story at a time. Co-founded by Ms. Palas Joshi, Executive Chairperson, and Ms. Sahara Joshi, Director, Tavisi integrates an e-commerce website ‘Tav the Shop’ with a digital magazine ‘Tav the Story’. The online shopping platform has quickly gained popularity for its focus on genuine products and authentic conversations.
Tav the Shop is a one-stop-shop for women enhancing ease of access to curated quality products and authentic information helping customers to make an informed decision. The website is an intentional and conscious effort to ease the busy lives of women by making their shopping experience more informed, convenient and hassle-free. Their commitment to sustainability by implementing eco-friendly and reusable packaging for their deliveries is a testament to their dedication to the upliftment and well-being of society.
Especially curated for women, Tav The Shop provides an assorted collection of quality products from selected local (13) and international (40) brands comprising both small and big businesses in six focal categories. The Beauty segment covers skin care, hair care, bath and body products, and makeup; and the Fashion segment includes jewelry, bags and shoes. Likewise, the Mom and Baby section comprises feeding and nourishing products; toys, games and puzzles including arts and educational toys; and baby essentials such as diapers, mosquito repellents and baby skin care products. Healthy Living entails superfoods, supplements, wellness products such as essential oil and tea, and feminine care essentials such as menstrual cups, tampons and sanitary pads. Similarly, while the newly added Home and Décor component aims to cover everything required to make one’s living space comfortable from lampshades and table lamps, candles and candle holders to kitchen accessories, with the Gifts We Love section, Tavisi hopes to make gift-giving for women a simpler, more accessible and enjoyable experience.
One of the unique aspects of Tavisi is the jute packaging that comes along with every delivery. Motivated by the circular economy model, Tav packaging embraces sustainable packaging methods with the intention to elongate the lifespan of the material, decrease the demand for new packaging production and simultaneously, foster a growing circular mindset amongst the community. Customers are provided with two options: either to return the jute bag with the delivery person so Tavisi can keep reusing the bag for their deliveries until it is completely worn out, or to buy the jute bag for a price of Rs. 260 with a resolve to keep reusing it themselves. Every delivery also comes with a card made by a student from one of the women empowerment and social change organizations that Tavisi works in collaboration with: the intention is to spread the word and provide greater visibility to these organizations that are working for the greater good of society.
As the world gears up to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8th March, this year’s IWD theme “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”, or more importantly Gender Equity as the Co-Founders would like to point out, cannot be more aligned for Tavisi as a brand and for what they are trying to achieve.
