Ncell has now been transformed into a public company. The company has changed its name from Ncell to Ncell Axiata Limited.
The company has stated that the name has been changed as per the decision of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and the Office of the Registrar of Companies.
Ncell, the largest private sector telecom service provider, has changed its name to a public company and the way is now open to issue public shares.
After the amendment of the Companies Act 2063 BS in 2074 BS, there is a provision that telecommunication companies with a paid up capital of more than Rs. Accordingly, Ncell has also gone to a public company. Ncell has a paid up capital of Rs 100 million.
Spice Nepal, which started the service in the name of my mobile, had sold the company to TeliaSonera of Sweden in 2010 and then it has been bought by Axiata of Malaysia. Telia has been operating the service in the name of Ncell since the branding of My Mobile and Spice Nepal as Ncell.
Ncell, the largest mobile operator in the private sector, had received permission to operate mobile services from the Nepal Telecommunication Authority on September 3, 2008.
According to NEA’s data for the month of June, Ncell currently has more than 16 million mobile users.
